Certain elastomers can make O-rings & rubber seals expensive with a long lead time. The O-ring Store provides Viton Extreme ETP in 3 Weeks or less at a great price.

Viton ETP O-rings
When someone looks at an O-ring or molded rubber seal, they usually don’t think it can cost upwards to several hundred dollars apiece. Most of the time, general-purpose seals are only a few cents or dollars apiece. The cost of the O-ring or rubber seal is greatly affected by the elastomer used to make it. The most popular and least expensive elastomer is nitrile (Buna). More than fifty percent of sealing needs can be met using nitrile. While every seal serves the same purpose (to block the passage of liquid or gas) they are all exposed to different environments. Many demanding industries like oil field machinery and chemical processing can expose rubber seals to extreme temperatures and caustic fluids on a daily basis. Sometimes, rubber seals made from specialty elastomers are the only thing that will withstand those applications. You certainly wouldn’t want to use the same O-ring you put in your kitchen sink as you would four miles below the earth’s surface in a drill bit.

Rubber seals made from perfluoroelastomers offer the best resistance to high temperatures and chemicals…but at a high cost.

Rubber seals made from perfluoroelastomers can resist continuous service temperatures of up to 600°F. There is no other elastomeric material that can offer such resistance. Standard elastomers can usually seal up to 400°F. Pefluoroelastomers also have inherent reisistance to aggressive chemicals. O-rings and molded rubber seals made from perfluoroelastomers resist more chemicals than seals made from any other elastomer. As you may have guessed, any seal made from a perfluoroelastomer will cost a significant amount. Unless you’re willing to shell out the big bucks, you might want to consider a viable alternative.

The O-ring Store's Domestic and Import Viton® Extreme (ETP) offers a less expensive alternative to perfluoroelastomers at a much reduced lead time, 3 weeks or less.

The O-ring Store's compound, CV75, is made from a Viton® Extreme (ETP) polymer. While that material can only be used in service temperatures up to 400°F, it offers reliable service similar to a perfluorelastomer in aggressive chemicals, but at a fraction of the cost. O-rings and molded rubber seals made from perfluoroelastomer can cost up to six times more than those made from Viton® ETP. O-rings – Basic Definition:

O-rings are one of the most common and important parts in almost every moving machine or part. O-rings are available in a large number of standard sizes and material. We will attempt to help you identify the size, compound, and were to purchase the o-rings you needed for all your application.
An O-ring is a loop of elastomer with a round (o-shaped) cross-section used as a mechanical seal. They are designed to be seated in a groove and compressed during assembly between two or more parts, creating a seal at the interface. The joint may be static, or have relative motion between parts and o-ring (rotating pump shafts and hydraulic cylinders, for example). Joints with motion usually require lubrication of the o-ring to reduce wear. This is often accomplished with the fluid being sealed.
O-rings are one of the most popular seals used in machine design because they are inexpensive and easy to make, reliable, and have simple mounting requirements. They can seal many thousands of psi.
Successful o-ring joint design requires a rigid mechanical mounting that applies a predictable deformation to the o-ring. This introduces a calculated mechanical stress at the o-ring contacting surfaces. As long as the pressure of the fluid being contained doesn't exceed the contact stress of the o-ring, leaking cannot occur.

Vulcanized O-ring Splicing - Custom O-rings

Vulcanizing is like hot gluing. This process is most often used to make O-rings. A small amount of adhesive is applied to a length of profile. The ends are pressed together and the joint is placed in a hot mold. Heat activates the glue, and pressure from the mold ensures the joint will be consistent with the dimensions of the profile. When the product is removed and cooled, the result is a reliable splice. This is an excellent and very effective process for splicing solid or sponge products with no internal cavity.

A: Prepare the o-ring cord stock, mark where the part will be cut, and cut the o-ring cord to the length required, using a Razor Blade or Gasket Knife. Determine the cut length of the desired o-ring based on these calculations:  (I.D. of O-Ring + 1 Cross Section) x 3.1416  =  Cut Length. Make sure you have a clean square cut on both ends of the rubber cord.

B: Apply bonding adhesive to both ends of the cord, allow the adhesive to air dry to a dull finish. Pay particular attention to insuring that the edges of the o-ring ends are thoroughly covered with adhesive.  In some cases, the adhesive will have a wet/dry condition on the ends. The dry portion will indicate that the adhesive has been absorbed into the rubber. In this situation, apply a second coat of adhesive. Allow the ends to air-dry so that the solvent in the adhesive can evaporate. The ends should have a dull matte finish after the solvent has evaporated.

C: Wearing heat proof gloves, bring both o-ring cord ends together in the Die-Set and close the top die, this will hold the o-ring cord in place. Depending on the cross-section diameter and material type, the cure time can vary. The time usually ranges from 3 to 10 minutes depending in size. Warm up time should be at least 10 minutes allowing the Die-Set to attain the proper temperature for vulcanization.

D: After the vulcanizing cycle open the Die-Set, and expose the finished o-ring.

E: Place the finished o-ring aside to cool, do not flex or stress the bonded joint while still hot.

Hot Vulcanized O-rings from The O-ring Store forms a strong molecular bond. The standard in splicing quality and order turn around time. With an extensive inventory of extruded cord stock, we are able to ship orders in 2-7 days.

Why? O-rings Online at The O-ring Store

Why?
I decided to be internet only, because as a company we needed a way to supply our products without the use of a phone and face to face is too difficult and costly with our product line. I believe we can make a positive influence on how the entire world buys and sells over the internet by providing us with the challenges and obstacles to make us better.

Everyone at The O-ring Store plans on the being the world's best supplier of O-rings, Seals, and O-ring Kits by accomplishing several small goals.
    1. Build an O-ring repair kit for every piece of equipment in the world.
    2. Increase our product offering for you.
    3. Assist our customers repair or build what is important to them.
    4. Supply quality products at a fair price.
    5. Deliver every product as quickly and economically as possible.
